Bombay Sapphire Distillery

The Bombay Sapphire Distillery is the world-renowned “brand home” and production site for Bombay Sapphire gin. Housed in the historic Laverstoke Mill, it is a state-of-the-art sustainable facility that blends industrial heritage with modern architectural design.

Location and Access
Address: Laverstoke Mill, London Road, Whitchurch, Hampshire, RG28 7NR.
Geography: Situated in rural North Hampshire, about 15 miles from Winchester and 60 miles from London.
Transport:
Train: The closest stations are Overton and Whitchurch (approx. 2–2.5 miles away). Taxis should be booked in advance as these are rural stations.
Bus: The 76 bus between Basingstoke and Andover stops directly outside the distillery.
Car: Located on the B3400; free parking is available on-site.

What You Can Do There
Discovery Tours: Guided or self-guided tours where you explore the mill’s 1,000-year history and the gin-making process.
Botanical Glasshouses: Walk through two iconic glass structures designed by Heatherwick Studio, which house the 10 exotic botanicals used in the gin (one Mediterranean climate, one Tropical).
Botanical Dry Room: A multi-sensory space to smell and touch real botanicals to discover your personal flavour profile.
Cocktail Masterclasses: Interactive sessions where you learn to mix three different Bombay Sapphire cocktails.
Dakin Still House: See the gleaming copper stills and learn about the unique Vapour Infusion process.
The Mill Bar & Café: Enjoy a complimentary cocktail (included with most tours) on the terrace overlooking the River Test.

Who Should Go and When
Who: It is ideal for gin enthusiasts, architecture buffs, and couples or groups looking for a stylish day out in the countryside.
When: Open year-round, but Spring and Summer are recommended to enjoy the outdoor riverside terrace and see the botanicals at their best.
Note: Advance booking is essential. Visitors must wear suitable footwear (no high heels or open-toed shoes) as it is a working distillery.

What Makes It Unique
Architecture: The intertwining, spiralling glasshouses are world-famous and a major design landmark.
Heritage: The site was formerly a paper mill that produced banknote paper for the Bank of England for over 225 years.
Sustainability: It was the first distillery to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ BREEAM accreditation for sustainable design, using a hydro-electric turbine in the river and a biomass boiler.
Process: It is the only London Dry Gin brand to use a 100% Vapour Infusion method, which extracts delicate flavours without “cooking” the botanicals.

Benefits of Visiting
Complimentary Drinks: Most tours include a free gin and tonic in the Turbine Bar and a signature cocktail in the Mill Bar.
Driver Benefits: Designated drivers receive a complimentary non-alcoholic cocktail and a “takeaway” gift pack to enjoy later.
Exclusive Shopping: The on-site Gin Shop sells limited-edition bottles, branded glassware, and cocktail accessories not easily found elsewhere.
