Chatham Historic Dockyard

Chatham historic dockyard is a great family day out with lots of things to see and do. As a starting point there are 3 ships to explore. There is a Naval sloop called HMS Gannet, a world war destroyer – HMS Cavalier, and a cold war submarine HMS Ocelot. Chatham historic dockyard also has a number of demonstrations and exhibitions. In the victorian ropery you can enjoy a 40 minute tour, watch a rope making demo and find out about the life styles of the people who worked there. The ‘Steam, Steel & Submarines’ will tell you the dockyard story. There is a collection of 17 RNLI historic lifeboats to see. There are also seperate exhibitions for the ‘big things’ like trucks, trains and machinery, the Railway workshop, maritime museum, restaurant, shop, softplay area and picnic area. Enough to keep most families amused for a few hours at least.
