Winkworth Arboretum is a stunning 121-acre hillside woodland in Surrey, near Godalming. It was created in the 20th century by Dr Wilfrid Fox to preserve the local landscape, and today it’s home to over 1,000 species of trees and shrubs. Unlike many flat parks, its position on a steep valley slope provides incredible tiered views overlooking Rowe’s Flashe Lake. It is the only dedicated arboretum in the National Trust’s entire portfolio, offering a unique, curated botanical experience. It was also designed for “autumn colour,” with massed plantings of maples and liquidambars.
