The Chichester Canal is worth visiting for its scenic walking paths, tranquil wildlife viewing, and relaxing 75-minute boat trips operated from spring to autumn. While boat trips are limited to a two-mile stretch, the 4-mile towpath offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing, and canoeing, plus a café at the Basin. The Canal Basin features a heritage center with local history and a popular café for food and drinks.
The Kingfisher 22-seater boat operates up to four times daily from spring to autumn, travelling from the basin to Donnington. Alongside the canal a flat, scenic towpath runs along the canal (up to 4 miles) towards Chichester Marina, offering views of the South Downs and birdlife like kingfishers and herons.
You can bring your own canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard (at your own risk) or rent rowing boats.
While not a full-day attraction, it is a great, calm escape within walking distance of Chichester city center and a perfect addition to a trip to the cathedral.
