Stratford Park in Stroud is a large historic park combining open green space, woodland, gardens, leisure facilities and family attractions. Visitors can explore the grounds, visit the Museum in the Park, enjoy walks around the lake and, during the summer season, swim at the popular Stratford Park Lido.

Stratford Park at a Glance

Stratford Park is a useful all-round destination for families, walkers and visitors looking for a relaxed day out in Stroud. The park includes landscaped grounds, woodland walks, specimen trees, a lake, sports facilities, a leisure centre and the free Museum in the Park.

Things to Do at Stratford Park

The park has plenty of space for walking, picnics and informal recreation. Its varied landscape includes woodland, gardens, open grassland and water features, making it a pleasant place to explore throughout much of the year.

The Museum in the Park is housed within the historic Stratford Park Mansion and explores the history and heritage of the Stroud district. Entry is free, and temporary exhibitions and events are also held during the year.

Stratford Park Leisure Centre provides indoor swimming, fitness and sports facilities, while the neighbouring outdoor lido is a distinctive summer attraction. The spring-fed lido reopened in 2026 following repair work and operates seasonally, so visitors should check the current timetable before travelling.

Is Stratford Park Good for Families?

Yes. The combination of open parkland, swimming, museum exhibits and seasonal activities makes Stratford Park particularly useful for families. Free events and children’s activities are also held at various times during the year.

How Long Should You Allow?

A simple walk around the park can take an hour or two, while combining the grounds with the museum, swimming or leisure facilities can easily make this a half-day visit.

A Few Useful Tips

Check the current opening arrangements for the lido and leisure centre before travelling, particularly outside the main summer season. The park itself is useful for a more flexible visit and can easily be combined with time in Stroud town centre.
