RHS Garden Bridgewater is located in Worsley, Salford (Greater Manchester). It’s a massive, 154-acre transformation of the old Worsley New Hall estate and is a fantastic mix of formal elegance and rugged woodland.
What’s there to do?
The star of the show is the Weston Walled Garden, one of the biggest in the UK. It’s divided into different “rooms,” including a stunning Kitchen Garden where they grow everything from heritage fruit to veg, and a Mediterranean-style Paradise Garden. Beyond the walls, you can wander through the Ellesmere Lake area or get a bit lost in the Chinese Streamside Garden.
Who is it for?
The Vibe
People usually spend about 3 to 4 hours here. It’s a great spot for parents to get a bit of a breather while kids explore the play area, though you’ll need to keep a close eye on them near the lake and streams. It’s a “whole family” destination, but definitely skews towards those who enjoy a slower pace.

Food and Parking
There is a large, bright café on-site serving seasonal food (often using ingredients from the garden). It’s high quality but can be a bit pricey. Parking is free, which is a huge plus for a major attraction so close to the city.
Saving Money
While I won’t list specific prices, it’s worth noting that RHS members get in for free, so if you plan on visiting other RHS gardens like Harlow Carr or Wisley, an annual membership is a total no-brainer for families. They also participate in schemes like the Green Travel discount, where you get a reduced entry rate if you arrive by bus, bike, or on foot. Discounts are usually available for children, and very young toddlers often get in for free.
Nearby Extras
If you want to make a full day of it, the historic Worsley Village is just down the road. It’s famous for its orange-tinted canal water (from the old mines) and has some lovely pubs and restaurants like The Pack Horse or George’s for a post-garden meal.
