Onchan Pleasure Park

Onchan Pleasure Park is located in the village of Onchan, just a short hop from Douglas in the Isle of Man. It’s a classic, traditional park that has a bit of a “time capsule” feel to it—it isn’t a high-octane theme park, but it’s packed with enough variety to keep a family busy for a good 2 to 3 hours.

What’s there to do?
The big draws here are the motorboats and bumper boats on the lake, which are always a hit. If you fancy a bit of friendly competition, there is ten-pin bowling, crazy golf, and even battery-operated karts for the younger ones. For something a bit more relaxed, you’ll find well-maintained crown green bowling lawns and tennis courts.

Who will enjoy it most?

• Young Children: This is their territory. Between the boats, the karts, and a very decent playground (which is a core part of the park, not just an afterthought), they will be well-entertained.
• Teenagers: They might find it a bit “tame” after an hour unless they are really into bowling or competitive crazy golf. It’s a very safe, open environment, so you could potentially give them some space while you grab a coffee.
• Adults: It’s a pleasant, nostalgic spot. While the kids play, adults usually enjoy the lakeside walks or a game of bowls.

Supervision and Safety
It’s a very “hands-on” place for parents with younger kids, especially near the water and on the karts. While it’s a self-contained park, you’ll want to keep a close eye on smaller children around the lake area.

• Parking: There is free parking available right at the park, which is a massive plus for a stress-free outing.

Is it worth it?
It’s definitely more than just a “see it to say you’ve been” spot—it’s a genuine afternoon of fun. To make a full day of it, you could easily combine this with a trip into Douglas to see the horse-drawn trams or a walk along the promenade.
