Aerospace Bristol

Aerospace Bristol is the home of the last Concorde ever to fly. Concorde Alpha Foxtrot was built at Filton, took off from Filton on her final flight in 2003, and now rests in her own magnificent hangar on the very site where she was made — the emotional heart of a museum that tells the story of more than a century of aviation in Bristol, from fragile box-kite biplanes to the space age.

Step Aboard Concorde

Going on board is included in your ticket — walk the famously slender cabin where passengers sipped champagne at twice the speed of sound, 60,000 feet up, watching the curvature of the Earth. The projection show played across her side is a real spine-tingler, and after-hours Concorde tours go deeper still for enthusiasts. It’s a wonderful contrast with the rest of the collection, which shows just how quickly flight went from wood-and-wire to supersonic.

A Century of Flight

The main galleries occupy a restored First World War aircraft hangar and journey from the earliest Bristol-built aeroplanes through two world wars to helicopters, missiles and satellites, with plenty of hands-on exhibits for budding pilots and engineers. Hangar 16R houses the Rolls-Royce heritage engine collection, and you can watch volunteers restoring historic Bristol aircraft as you go.

Visiting Aerospace Bristol

The museum is at Filton on the northern edge of Bristol, just off the M5/M4 with free parking, and books cheaper online — cleverly, every ticket then works as an annual pass with free return visits for twelve months. Allow three to four hours, and there’s a café and outdoor play area for smaller visitors. It pairs perfectly with Brunel’s SS Great Britain down at the harbourside and the Clifton Suspension Bridge for a full day of Bristol engineering genius.
