Wookey Hole is one of the UK’s largest and most famous show cave systems, featuring a massive network of limestone caverns and a variety of family-oriented attractions. Located in the Mendip Hills in Somerset, it is approximately 2 miles from the city of Wells and roughly 20 miles from Bath and Bristol.
What to Do
Beyond the main cave tour, your ticket includes a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities:
The Caves: Explore eight stunning underground chambers, including the “Witch’s Parlour,” the UK’s largest natural dome.
Dinosaur Valley: Walk among over 30 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs.
Wookey Hole Circus: Watch live performances featuring acrobatics and magic (available weekends and school holidays).
The Mill: Visit a 17th-century paper mill containing a museum, a vintage penny arcade, and a mirror maze.
Adventure Golf: Play a 9-hole pirate-themed course.
4D Cinema: Experience immersive films with moving seats and special effects.
Wild Wookey: For an extra fee, thrill-seekers can book this extreme caving experience involving climbing and abseiling.

Planning Your Visit
Duration: Most visitors spend half to a full day (roughly 3 to 5 hours) to experience all attractions. The cave tour itself takes about 35–45 minutes.
Best Suited For: Families with children (especially ages 3–12) and history or nature enthusiasts.
Best Times to Go: Visit Monday to Thursday during term time to avoid large crowds. Arriving around 10:30 AM is recommended to “beat the rush”.
What Makes It Unique
Wookey Hole is distinct for its blend of natural history and local legend. It is the legendary home of the Witch of Wookey Hole, whose “petrified” remains (a stalagmite) can be seen in the caves. It also features a Cheese Tunnel, where Wookey Hole Cheddar is matured under specific underground conditions. Additionally, it was the site of the UK’s first recorded cave dive in 1935.
