Go Ape is one of the UK’s most popular outdoor adventure experiences — and once you’ve tried it, it’s easy to see why. Imagine climbing high into the forest canopy, crossing rope bridges between the treetops, launching yourself down zip wires and tackling aerial assault courses — all with the most incredible woodland views all around you. It’s exhilarating, brilliant fun and unlike almost anything else you can do on a UK day out.
With over 35 locations in forests and outdoor settings across the UK, there’s almost certainly a Go Ape within reach of wherever you are — or wherever you’re heading on your break. Each location has its own character and mix of activities, but all of them deliver that same brilliant combination of adventure, fresh air and unforgettable memories.
The activities on offer vary by location but most Go Ape sites offer some combination of the following:
The classic Go Ape experience. High ropes courses through the forest canopy with rope crossings, Tarzan swings, scramble nets and zip wires. Brilliant for older children, teenagers and adults — genuinely thrilling even for those who think they won’t find it scary!
Enormous aerial nets suspended high in the trees — perfect for bouncing, rolling and exploring at height. Great fun for younger children and families who want the treetop experience without the more challenging ropes elements.
Glide through the forest on a Segway — a brilliant alternative activity available at selected locations. Great for adults and older teenagers who want something a little different from the high ropes.
Some Go Ape locations feature dedicated zip wire experiences — longer, faster and more dramatic than the standard zip wires on the main courses. An absolute must if available at your chosen location.
A newer addition at selected Go Ape sites — supervised axe throwing in a safe outdoor environment. Surprisingly satisfying and very popular with adults and older teenagers looking for something a bit different.
Specially designed shorter courses for younger children, with smaller obstacles and lower heights. Perfect for introducing little ones to the Go Ape experience safely and at the right level for their age and confidence.

Age and height requirements — different activities have different minimum age and height requirements. The main Treetop Adventure courses are generally suitable for children aged 10 and over, while Treetop Nets and Junior courses cater for younger children. Always check the specific requirements for your chosen location and activity before booking.
Weight limits — Go Ape activities have maximum weight restrictions for safety reasons. These vary by activity and are listed on the Go Ape website.
Adult supervision — children must be accompanied by a participating adult on most courses. One adult can supervise up to two children on the main Treetop Adventure course.
What to wear — closed-toe shoes are essential (no sandals or flip flops). Comfortable clothes you can move freely in are ideal — avoid anything too loose or baggy. Long hair should be tied back.
Weather — Go Ape operates in most weather conditions but heavy rain, lightning or high winds may affect or close activities. Check before you travel if the forecast is poor.
How long does it take? — most Go Ape experiences last between 2 and 3 hours. Allow time for the safety briefing and getting kitted up before you start.
Go Ape is absolutely brilliant for families with older children — it’s one of those rare activities where everyone is genuinely challenged and genuinely delighted in equal measure. Parents are often more nervous than the kids, and the kids absolutely love watching! A shared adventure that creates brilliant memories.
A Go Ape session makes a fantastic alternative day out for couples or groups of friends who want something a bit more active and adventurous than the usual options. The zip wires and rope challenges are brilliant fun when you’re egging each other on.
Go Ape is an increasingly popular choice for team building days, birthday celebrations, hen and stag parties and group outings. The shared challenge and brilliant atmosphere make it a natural social experience — and it’s something genuinely different from the usual options.
