Go Ape – Rivington

Go Ape Rivington is tucked away in the woodlands of Lancashire, right near the Rivington Reservoir. It’s a high-energy spot focused on getting you up into the canopy for a mix of physical challenges and great views.

What to Expect

This specific location features the Treetop Challenge, which is the “grown-up” version of their courses. You’ll be navigating high rope crossings, wobbly bridges, and some seriously long zip wires that fly right over the water. It’s definitely more about the adrenaline and the “experience” rather than just looking at things.

  • Age and Height: You need to be at least 10 years old and stand at least 1.4m (4ft 7in) tall to take part.
  • The Vibe: It’s a genuine “whole family” activity if you have older kids or teens, but it’s just as popular for groups of adults or couples.
  • Duration: Most people spend about 2 to 3 hours completing the course.

Family & Age Suitability

  • Young Kids: This isn’t the place for toddlers or very small children. Since it only offers the Treetop Challenge (and not the “Adventure” or “Junior” courses found at other sites), younger or shorter children simply won’t be able to participate.
  • Teens: This is a winner for teenagers. It’s challenging enough that they won’t get restless, and the zip wires are genuinely impressive.
  • Supervision: You can’t just drop the kids and go for a coffee. Children under 16 require an adult to supervise them, either up on the course or from the ground (depending on their age), so it’s a “hands-on” day for parents rather than a break.

Costs & Value

  • Discounts: Look out for Blue Light Card discounts or student rates. If you live nearby and plan on going more than once, they do offer an annual pass which can pay for itself if you’re a high-ropes addict.
  • Parking: There is a charge for the local car parks, and they can get very busy on weekends, so keep that in mind for your schedule.
  • Food: There isn’t a full-blown restaurant on-site, but there is a cabin for snacks. However, the food and drink can be a bit pricey for what it is.

Making a Day of It

Rivington is a fantastic area even without the ropes. You’re right next to Rivington Terrace Gardens, which is a bit of a “hidden gem” full of old stone structures, a pigeon tower, and a Japanese lake—perfect for a walk if you want to see something interesting after the excitement of the course.

For a proper meal, Rivington Brew Co is nearby for a casual craft beer and street food vibe, or the Great House Barn is a classic choice for a brew and a massive slice of cake in a historic setting.
