WaterWorld

Waterworld is a massive indoor tropical water park located in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. It is definitely a “big attraction” rather than a local pool, featuring over 30 rides and a constant tropical temperature of around 30°C, making it a solid choice for a day out regardless of the weather.

What can you do there?

The park is built around a large wave pool (Typhoon Lagoon) that features a beach-effect entry. Every 20 minutes or so, a klaxon sounds to warn you that the waves are about to start—and they can be quite powerful!

  • For the Adrenaline Junkies: You’ll want to head straight for Tornado Alley. This area houses Thunderbolt, which is the UK’s first trap-door drop slide where the floor literally disappears beneath you. There is also Cyclone, a fast-paced ring ride that actually takes you outside the building and back in again.
  • Family Racing: The Family Multi-Slide is great for a bit of friendly competition, allowing four people to race down side-by-side.
  • Chill Vibes: There are bubble pools, a lazy river (usually open in summer), and a rapids ride for something a bit more relaxed.
  • Toddler Zone: The Jungle House and dedicated children’s slides are perfect for the little ones. They can climb nets, use water cannons, and enjoy smaller flumes designed specifically for their age.

Is it right for your group?

Most people spend about 3 to 4 hours here. During very busy times, the park might implement a three-hour session limit to manage crowds.

  • Toddlers & Young Kids: They will love the interactive Jungle House and the “beach” area of the wave pool. However, they need one-to-one supervision if they are weak swimmers or very small.
  • Teenagers: They won’t be bored if they like thrills. The high-speed flumes in Tornado Alley are specifically designed to keep them entertained.
  • Parents: While the kids are off on the slides, you can escape to the bubble pools or the hot tub areas, though during peak times these can get quite crowded.

Rules to Keep in Mind

  • Supervision: Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. One adult can look after two children under 11, provided the kids can swim. If they can’t, it’s one adult per child.
  • Height Restrictions:
    • Under 1.1m: Can use the toddler zones and about 4 of the main slides if riding with an adult.
    • Over 1.1m: Can access most standard flumes.
    • Over 1.2m: Can ride the “white knuckle” slides like Cyclone and Stormchaser.
    • Over 1.4m: Required for the Thunderbolt drop slide.
  • Age Limits: The Jungle House and certain toddler slides are strictly for those under 8 years old.

Budget & Practical Tips

  • Saving Money: Booking online in advance is significantly cheaper than paying at the door. They often have Combo Deals that include 18 holes of Adventure Mini Golf (located on-site) for a small extra fee.
  • Discounts: Reduced rates are usually available for children under 1.1mseniorsdisabled guests, and carersBlue Light Card holders can often get a discount at reception (bring your ID!).
  • Food & Drink: You aren’t allowed to bring your own food inside. There is a Water’s Edge Restaurant and a poolside cafe where you can eat in your swimwear. It can be a bit pricey, so many families choose to eat at the nearby restaurants on Festival Park (like Subway or nearby pubs) after their swim.
  • Parking & Lockers: Parking is available but typically involves a fee. Lockers require a £5 deposit (usually via a wristband), which is refunded when you return the band on time.
  • Pro Tip: Arrive for the very first session of the day. You can hit the most popular slides (the ones requiring rubber rings) before the queues get long, then relax in the wave pool when it gets busier.
