Belvoir Brewery Tour

The Belvoir Brewery is tucked away in Old Dalby, Leicestershire. It’s a great little stop for anyone who appreciates the craft of a good pint, but it’s definitely more of a “grown-up” outing than a family theme park.

What’s the vibe?
This is an authentic, working brewery. The tour itself is a classic “behind the scenes” experience where you get to see the copper tuns, smell the hops, and learn how they turn raw ingredients into their award-winning ales like Blueberry Stout or Whipling. It’s interesting rather than high-octane entertainment, appealing mostly to adults and real ale enthusiasts.

The Experience

  • The Tour: You’ll spend about 1.5 to 2 hours here if you’re doing the full walkthrough and sampling. It’s hands-on in the sense that you’re right there in the thick of the machinery, but there’s no “flashy” tech—just good old-fashioned brewing.
  • Age Suitability: While kids are technically allowed in the building, most young children and teenagers will likely find the technical talk a bit dry and get restless quickly. There isn’t a playground or specific entertainment for them, so it’s best saved for a group of friends or a couple’s afternoon.
  • The Sample Cellar: This is the highlight for most. It’s a cosy spot to taste the range fresh from the source.

Planning Your Visit

  • Discounts & Value: They often run deals for groups, and it is well worth checking for vouchers on popular experience websites before you book, as they frequently appear there.
  • Food & Drink: There is an on-site bar and kitchen (The Sample Cellar) serving hearty, brewery-style food. It’s reasonably priced, though you’re in a rural spot, so options directly on-site are limited to what they offer.
  • Parking: There is free parking available on-site, which makes the logistics easy.

Making a Day of It
Since the brewery visit only takes up a chunk of the afternoon, you can easily pair it with a trip to the nearby Melton Mowbray (the home of the pork pie) which is just a short drive away. If you fancy a bit of fresh air afterward, the Belvoir Escarpment offers some lovely walking routes with views over the vale.

It’s a solid choice if you want to learn something new and enjoy a drink, but if you’re looking for a place to let the kids run wild while you relax, this probably isn’t the one!
