RSPB Bempton Cliffs

If you’re looking for a nature spectacle that feels like a scene from a wildlife documentary, RSPB Bempton Cliffs is the place to be. Perched on the edge of the towering white chalk cliffs of the East Riding of Yorkshire, this spot is famous for its massive seabird colonies.

What’s the big draw?
Between early spring and around August, the cliffs are basically a high-rise city for birds. You can see thousands of Gannets, Guillemots, and Razorbills, but the real stars of the show are the Puffins. These colourful little characters usually hang around from April to July. It’s a total sensory experience—expect it to be loud and, depending on the wind, a bit “aromatic”!

Fun things to do:

• The Viewpoints: There are safe, fenced-off platforms stretching along the cliff tops. Peer over the edge (carefully!) to see parents feeding chicks or birds diving into the North Sea.
• Borrow Binoculars: If you don’t have your own, you can usually hire a pair at the visitor centre. It makes a world of difference for spotting a Puffin tucked into a crevice.
