Woodlands Family Theme Park is Devon’s biggest theme park — around 100 acres of rides, slides and animals in the rolling countryside near Dartmouth, and a South Devon holiday institution for generations of families. It’s pitched perfectly at children rather than white-knuckle teens: watercoasters, an epic toboggan run, enormous indoor play centres and a proper zoo farm, all in one place, whatever the weather does.
Rides and Play Zones
The park is laid out as a string of play zones through the woods. Outdoor favourites include three splashing watercoasters, the 500-metre toboggan run, the stomach-dropping Avalanche and a big swing ship, plus endless climbing, sliding and scrambling for younger ones. When the Devon drizzle arrives, the park comes into its own: its vast indoor venture centres are among the largest in the South West, with rides and soft play that can swallow an entire wet afternoon.
Zoo Farm and Falconry
What sets Woodlands apart from most theme parks is the animals. The zoo farm is home to hundreds of creatures from cuddly favourites to exotic surprises, and the falconry centre stages fascinating flying displays with its team of more than fifty birds of prey — genuinely one of the best in the region, and included in your entry.
Visiting Woodlands Family Theme Park
Woodlands is on the A3122 about five miles from Dartmouth, with plenty of free parking. Book online for the best prices, and check the park’s ride calendar before travelling — the full outdoor line-up runs through the main season, with indoor play leading the way in the colder months. There’s even a well-regarded campsite on site, with park entry included for stays of two nights or more. Combine it with the Dartmouth Steam Railway or Paignton Zoo for a full South Devon family break.
