The Small Breeds Farm & Owl Centre is tucked away in Kington, Herefordshire. It is a fantastic spot if you love animals and want a day out that feels personal and unhurried rather than a massive, noisy theme park.
What’s the vibe?
It’s a very hands-on, gentle experience. The stars of the show are the “miniature” versions of farm animals—think tiny horses, goats, and sheep that are often much smaller than you’d expect. The Owl Centre is world-class, featuring a huge variety of species from around the globe. Because the enclosures are designed to be accessible, you get a really “up-close” view of the birds.

Who will love it?

The Experience
Most people spend about 2 to 3 hours here. It’s definitely an “interesting and hands-on” venue rather than just sitting back and watching a show. You can buy bags of feed, which makes the goats and sheep your best friends instantly.

Nearby Gems
If you want to make a full day of it, you are right near Herguest Ridge. It’s a famous walking spot with stunning views—perfect if you want to let the kids (or dogs) burn off some energy for free after seeing the animals. Kington itself is a lovely historic town with plenty of local pubs and independent cafes if you want a proper meal before heading home.
It’s a genuine, well-run attraction that feels like a “hidden gem” rather than a tourist trap. You’ll definitely leave with some great photos!
