Gullivers Kingdom

Located in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, Gulliver’s Kingdom is a theme park built directly into a steep hillside. Because of its unique layout, it offers fantastic views of the Derbyshire Dales, but be prepared for a bit of a workout walking between the different “worlds.”

What to Expect
This park is specifically designed for families with children aged between 2 and 13. It isn’t a place for thrill-seeking teenagers or adults looking for white-knuckle rides; the rollercoasters and attractions are intentionally “junior” sized. Most people spend about 4 to 5 hours here, making it a solid half-day or a relaxed full-day out.

The Experience

• For Little Ones: There are plenty of gentle rides like the carousels, tea cups, and a safari ride.
• The Big Highlights: The Log Flume and the Chairlift are the stars here. The chairlift is actually a practical way to get from the bottom of the hill to the top without the steep hike.
• Supervision: While children need to be accompanied on most rides, the layout is contained enough that older kids can have a bit of independence within the themed areas. It’s a “hands-on” parenting day rather than a “sit back and relax” spot, as you’ll likely be joining them on the rides.

Restrictions

• Height Matters: Most rides have a minimum height requirement of 90cm to ride with an adult, and 120cm to ride alone. If your child is under 90cm, their options will be limited to the play areas and very small rides.

• Under 90cm: Children under this height usually get in for free, which is a great saving if you have a toddler just tagging along.

Since you are in Matlock Bath, you can easily combine this with a stroll through the village. It’s famous for its “seaside feel” despite being inland, full of fish and chip shops, ice cream parlours, and arcades. If you have any energy left, the Heights of Abraham cable car is right nearby, or you can take a level walk along the river Derwent.
