Eureka! Science + Discovery is located in Seacombe, Wirral. It’s the second site for the Eureka! brand and focuses heavily on how things work, science, and the “invisible” stuff that makes our bodies and the world tick.
What’s the vibe?
This isn’t a “look but don’t touch” museum. It’s highly interactive and designed for 6 to 14-year-olds. While toddlers will find things to poke and push, the sweet spot is definitely primary and early secondary school ages. It’s hands-on, noisy, and energetic.
What can you do there?
Body Works: Kids can explore how the human body functions, from giant teeth to learning about how our brains process information.
Nature’s Canvas: This area looks at the science behind the world around us and the environment.
Make Create: A space dedicated to engineering and invention where children can get stuck into building and designing.
The Hub: Often hosts workshops and live demonstrations that bring scientific concepts to life with a bit of a “wow” factor.
Planning your visit
Time spent: Most families stay for about 3 hours. If your kids are the type to read every single board, you could stretch it to 4, but 3 is the average before brains start to get tired.
Age appeal: It is genuinely great for the whole family, though teenagers might feel they’ve “outgrown” some parts quickly unless they have a genuine interest in STEM. For parents, it’s a “hands-off” experience in the sense that kids are safe to explore, but you’ll likely be pulled over to see what they’ve discovered. It isn’t a soft play where you can just sit in a corner; you’ll be moving with them.
Food and Drink: There is a café on-site, though it can get busy. For a bit more variety or a post-visit meal, the surrounding area of Seacombe is a bit quiet, but a quick hop over to New Brighton offers plenty of restaurants, bars, and a cinema.
Parking: There is a dedicated car park right outside, though it is a pay-and-display.
Deals: They operate an annual pass system. You pay for one day and can return as many times as you like for a full year. If you live within a 45-minute drive, this is excellent value and makes repeat visits a no-brainer. They also offer discounted rates for children under a certain age and for carers.
Nearby highlights
The best way to arrive is actually via the Mersey Ferry. The terminal is right next door, so you can combine the museum with a boat trip across the river to Liverpool City Centre. You could easily spend the morning at Eureka! and the afternoon exploring the Royal Albert Dock or the Museum of Liverpool.
