The Bombay Sapphire Distillery is a modern, sensory-driven experience located at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire. This historic site, once a Victorian paper mill that produced banknotes for the British Empire, has been transformed into a stunning sustainable distillery where the world-famous gin is produced.
What to See and Do
The highlight of the visit is the Glasshouses, two striking, intertwining structures designed by Thomas Heatherwick. One glasshouse hosts tropical plants, while the other features Mediterranean species, representing the exotic botanicals used in the gin.

Visitors can explore the Botanical Dry Room, where you can smell and learn about the different ingredients. Most tours include a guided or self-guided walk through the distillation hall and culminate in a complimentary drink at the Mill Bar, situated right alongside the River Test.
Duration and Audience
On average, visitors spend about 2 to 3 hours on-site.
Best Time to Visit
To enjoy the glasshouses at their most picturesque, aim for a sunny day. The light through the glass and the crystal-clear waters of the river are best viewed in bright conditions. Weekdays are significantly quieter than weekends. If you prefer a lively atmosphere, Saturday afternoons are the peak time for social groups.
Unique Features
The most unique aspect is the integration of the River Test. The river actually flows through the distillery, and the chalk-filtered water is a key part of the site’s heritage. The sustainable heating system, which uses heat captured from the distillation process to warm the glasshouses, is also a marvel of modern engineering.

Budget and Value
While there is an entry fee, it typically includes a signature cocktail, which provides good value for the overall experience.
