Adventure Coast Southport (Pleasureland)

Adventure Coast Southport amusement park

Generations of North West families knew it as Southport Pleasureland — it’s now Adventure Coast Southport, a family-run seaside amusement park on Marine Drive, right on Southport’s seafront. The big appeal is the way it works: entry is free, and you load up a reusable admission card and pay only for what you ride — so grandparents can wander in for the atmosphere while the kids work through the rides. It’s a proper traditional seaside park with a modern refresh, and well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome too.

Location Details

  • County: Merseyside
  • Post Code: PR8 1RX (Marine Drive, on the seafront — about a 15-minute walk from Southport station through the lovely King’s Gardens)

The Four Themed Lands

  • Cartoon Boardwalk: Bright, gentle rides aimed squarely at younger children.
  • Viking Landing: Norse-themed fun with rides for the whole family.
  • Steampunk Bay: The UK’s only steampunk-themed park area — cogs, brass and retro-futuristic contraptions, great fun just to walk around.
  • Pirate Cove: Swashbuckling rides and games, including the classics you’d hope for at the seaside.

Beyond the Rides

There are live shows with resident magicians and performers through the season, a family amusement arcade, go-karts, stalls and plenty of food outlets — though picnics are welcome if you’d rather bring your own. Rides range from toddler-gentle to teenage-thrill, with the classic log flume and coasters still going strong.

Good to Know

  • How it works: Pick up an admission card for a small charge, top it up as much or as little as you like, and keep the card for your next visit during the season. Wristband options appear for peak days — check the official site before travelling.
  • Duration: Anything from a couple of hours to a full day, depending entirely on how many rides your party can be talked into.
  • Season: Mainly weekends and school holidays from spring through autumn, with special events through the year — opening days vary, so check before travelling.
  • Little ones: The smallest children generally go free, and there’s plenty at their scale.

Make a Day of Southport

The park sits at one end of a classic seaside town. Stroll back along King’s Gardens and the Marine Lake, walk out along Southport Pier (currently closed for maintenance), and finish with a wander down tree-lined Lord Street, one of the North West’s most elegant shopping streets.

Eat, Drink & Stay Nearby

The park has plenty of food outlets (and welcomes picnics), but Southport itself deserves an appetite: tree-lined Lord Street and its glass-canopied Victorian arcades are full of independent cafés, bakeries and restaurants, and no seafront visit is complete without an ice cream by the Marine Lake or fish and chips on the way back from the pier.

Turn it into a seaside break: Southport’s classic promenade hotels are great value, and a holiday cottage along this stretch of coast puts Formby’s beaches and Liverpool within easy reach too.
