Bannockburn Visitor Centre

The Bannockburn Visitor Centre is an immersive, high-tech experience located on the site where King Robert the Bruce defeated the English army in 1314. It is located in Whins of Milton, Stirlingshire, and uses the postcode FK7 0LJ.

What to Expect and Enjoy

This is not a traditional museum with old objects in glass cases; instead, it uses 3D technology to put you right in the middle of medieval warfare. You will wear special 3D glasses to see realistic simulations of knights and archers, hearing the clash of swords all around you. The highlight for many groups is the interactive Battle Game room. Here, an expert guide leads your group as you take command of your own virtual army on a digital battle map to see if you can change the course of history. Outside, you can take a peaceful stroll to the iconic bronze statue of Robert the Bruce and the memorial park.

Best For and Time Spent

It is a huge hit for families with school-aged children, teens, and gaming fans. Adults will love the strategy and historical depth. It might be a little intense or loud for very young toddlers.

  • Duration: Visitors usually spend about one and a half to two hours here. The battle game itself takes up a set slot of about an hour.

Helpful Tips for Your Visit

  • Parking: There is plenty of free parking available right outside the main visitor centre building.
  • Booking: Because the interactive battle game has strict limits on group numbers, you definitely need to book your session online before you arrive to avoid missing out.
  • Food & Drink: The on-site café serves fantastic Scottish treats, soups, and sandwiches, and there is a great gift shop filled with unique historical souvenirs.

Nearby and Combine-able Hits

The centre is located just south of Stirling town centre, making it a quick drive to Stirling Castle or the Stirling Old Jail. If you fancy some outdoor fun right after, the nearby Helix Park and its giant horse sculptures are an easy drive down the road towards Falkirk.
