Deanston Distillery

Deanston Distillery is a unique whisky distillery housed in a massive, historic cotton mill on the banks of the River Teith. It is located in Deanston, near Doune, Perthshire, and uses the postcode FK16 6AG.

What to Expect and Enjoy

This isn’t your typical distillery; the industrial heritage of the building gives it a completely different feel. You can take a guided tour to see the giant copper stills and learn how they use the rushing river water to generate their own green electricity. The vaulted warehouses where the whisky matures are incredibly atmospheric and smell amazing. Even if you aren’t a big whisky drinker, the history of the building as a 17th-century mill is fascinating. At the end of the tour, adults can enjoy a tutored tasting of their smooth, honeyed malts.

Best For and Time Spent

This is a great stop for adults, couples, and groups of friends. While children are allowed on the tours, the focus is very much on the technical and tasting side of things.

  • Duration: A standard tour and tasting usually lasts about one and a half hours.

Helpful Tips for Your Visit

  • Booking: To make sure you get a spot on a tour, it is best to book online in advance, especially during the summer months.
  • Food & Drink: The “Coffee Bothy” on-site is fantastic, serving hearty soups, sandwiches, and local baking in a very cosy setting.
  • Drivers: If you are the designated driver, don’t worry! They usually provide “driver kits” so you can take your whisky samples home to enjoy later.
