New Brighton

New Brighton is a classic seaside resort at the tip of the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside. It’s got that nostalgic “day at the prompts” vibe but has been updated with a massive modern development called Marine Point. You can easily spend a full day here as a family because everything is quite compact.

The Main Attractions

Marine Point & New Brighton Promenade
This is the heart of the action. The promenade is massive—one of the longest in the UK—making it perfect for a long, flat walk or a bike ride with views across the Mersey to the Liverpool skyline. It’s a “hands-off” kind of place where kids can scoot or run safely. You’ll find the big-hitters here like the Championship Adventure Golf, which is genuinely fun for the whole family with two 18-hole courses themed around local landmarks.

Fort Perch Rock
Sitting right on the edge of the beach, this is an old coastal defence battery. It’s more of an “interesting” stop than a “high-energy” one. You can wander around, but it’s largely a “see it once” spot for the history buffs in the family. Most people spend about 30-45 minutes here just soaking up the atmosphere.

The Black Pearl
Keep an eye out on the beach for this “community” pirate ship made entirely from driftwood. It’s brilliant for younger children to climb on and play pretend. It’s completely hands-on and great for photos, though it depends on the tide and local maintenance.

The Light Cinema & Riverside Bowl
If the weather turns, Marine Point has a modern cinema and a boutique bowling alley. The bowling is a great way to kill an hour and usually keeps teenagers from getting too restless.

Bubbles’ World of Play
Located in the Marine Point complex, this is a massive indoor play area. Unlike a tiny local soft play, this one is themed around different countries. It’s specifically targeted at younger kids (up to age 11) and is a godsend for parents who want a break while the children burn off energy in a contained space.

For Walkers and Cyclists

The best route is the Promenade Trail.

  • Distance: Approximately 3.5 miles if you go from Seacombe Ferry Terminal to New Brighton.
  • Type: Linear (but easy to double back).
  • Surface: Entirely paved and flat.
  • Points of Interest: You’ll pass the Wallasey Town Hall and get incredible views of the Liverpool Docks and the Perch Rock Lighthouse. It’s fully off-road, so it’s very safe for young cyclists.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Duration: You can easily fill 4 to 6 hours here if you combine a walk, a round of golf, and a meal.
  • Age Groups: It’s a genuine “whole family” destination. Toddlers love the beach and soft play; teens will stick to the bowling and cinema; adults will enjoy the coastal walks and views.
  • Discounts & Value: Keep an eye out for Blue Light Card discounts at the major chain restaurants in Marine Point. Many of the eateries also offer “kids eat for a pound” or similar deals during school holidays.
  • Parking & Food: There is a large, free car park right at Marine Point, though it fills up fast on sunny weekends. Food-wise, you’ve got everything from standard chains (Prezzo, Starbucks) to traditional fish and chip shops and ice cream parlours along the front.

Nearby to Combine

If you want to make a weekend of it, you’re just a short drive from Wallasey Village for more independent cafes, or you can hop on the Mersey Ferry from nearby Seacombe to head into Liverpool city centre for a completely different vibe.
