What Can You Do There?
The real highlight for most families and groups is the live stuff. They have regular combat demonstrations where experts show you how people actually fought with longswords or poleaxes. During the school holidays and certain weekends, they often hold jousting tournaments in the outdoor Tiltyard. Watching horses gallop at full speed while knights try to knock each other off is about as “main event” as it gets!

• Time: You can easily spend 3 to 4 hours here if you’re watching the shows. If you’ve got a real history buff in the group, clear the whole day.
• Budgeting: Here’s the best part—entry is completely free, though you do need to book a timed slot online in advance. Since the museum itself doesn’t cost anything, it’s a total winner for a budget-friendly day out.
• Food & Drink: There’s an on-site cafe, but since you’re in the heart of the city, prices can be typical for a tourist spot. Many visitors recommend bringing a packed lunch to eat by the docks if the weather is nice.
