Wakefield Cathedral is a real beauty sitting right in the heart of Wakefield, West Yorkshire (WF1 1HG). It’s got a super welcoming vibe and is famous for having the tallest spire in the whole of Yorkshire—you literally can’t miss it!
What’s the fun stuff to see?
Once you step inside, it’s surprisingly light and airy. The real “wow” factor comes from the stunning stained glass and the intricate wood carvings on the choir stalls. If you’re lucky enough to visit when the choir is practicing or during a lunchtime concert (usually held on Tuesdays), the acoustics are absolutely incredible. For those who love a bit of history mixed with art, keep an eye out for the modern “Stations of the Cross” sculptures which are quite a talking point.

Pro-tips for your visit:

Make a day of it:
Since you’re right in the centre, you’re only a short walk away from the Wakefield Museum (which is also free and great for kids) or a quick drive/bus ride to The Hepworth Wakefield, a world-class art gallery. If you fancy a bit of retail therapy or a movie after your dose of culture, the Trinity Walk shopping centre is just around the corner with plenty of well-known restaurants and bars to finish off your afternoon.
