Hamilton Water Palace
Moving over to Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, this is one of the most popular indoor swimming spots in the region. It is located at 35 Almada Street, and the postcode is ML3 0HQ. It’s famous for having one of the best “fun” pools for younger children.
What to Expect and Enjoy
The layout here is very bright and open, designed to feel more like a palace of fun than a standard local pool.
- The Pirate Ship: This is the centrepiece for younger kids. It’s a shallow-water play area built around a large pirate ship with water cannons and small slides. It’s perfect for building water confidence.
- The Leisure Waters: For the older ones, there are high-speed flumes and a “tire ride” where you slide down on an inflatable. There is also a “lazy river” section and a fast-moving rapids area.
- Competition Pool: If you actually want to swim some laps, there is a separate 25-metre pool that stays away from all the splashing and noise of the fun zone.
- The Health Suite: Similar to Greenock, there is a very good sauna and steam room area for adults to relax in.

This is specifically great for families with toddlers and primary school-aged children because of the excellent pirate ship area.

- Parking: There is a car park on-site, but it is quite small and can fill up very quickly. You might need to use nearby on-street parking or the larger town centre car parks, which are a short walk away.
- Food & Drink: There is a small café area for drinks and light snacks. Since it’s in the heart of Hamilton, you’re only a few minutes’ walk from plenty of high-street cafes and bakeries.
- Savings: They often have “Family Swim” sessions which are much more budget-friendly. Members of other South Lanarkshire Leisure facilities can sometimes get discounted or free entry.
- Season: Open all year round. It is incredibly popular, so if you’re going on a rainy Saturday or during a school holiday, try to get there early to avoid a queue.

You are very close to Hamilton Park Racecourse if you want to see the horses. For a bit of nature, Chatelherault Country Park is just a five-minute drive away; it has a massive adventure playground and beautiful woodland walks. If you want to keep the “shopping and fun” theme going, the Regent Shopping Centre is right nearby.
