Located on the banks of Loch Fyne in Argyll (PA32 8UY), this town is famous for its bright white-painted buildings and its stunning lochside setting.

It feels very grand and traditional. People visit for the incredible architecture and the world-famous seafood.

  • Inveraray Jail: One of the best attractions in Scotland. It’s a fully interactive 19th-century prison where you can sit in the courtroom and even get “locked” in the cells. It’s chatty, engaging, and perfect for families.
  • The Main Street: Full of independent shops selling local woollens, whisky, and crafts.
  • Loch Fyne: The town sits right on the water, and the views are spectacular.

  • Duration: Allow 3 hours for the town and the jail, or longer if you are visiting Inveraray Castle next door.
