House of Bruar and the Falls of Bruar
The House of Bruar is a famous high-end shopping destination often called the “Harrods of the North,” but it is also the starting point for a spectacular woodland walk. It is located near Blair Atholl, Perthshire, and uses the postcode PH18 5TW.
What to Expect and Enjoy
While the shopping is a major draw for some, nature lovers come for the Falls of Bruar. A well-marked path leads from the car park up through a deep, wooded gorge where the water crashes over series of spectacular waterfalls. The walk was famously praised by the poet Robert Burns, who actually suggested the trees be planted there to make it even more beautiful! There are two stone bridges that cross the gorge, providing fantastic views down into the thundering water. Back at the base, the House of Bruar features an incredible food hall, a gallery of rural art, and a vast range of Scottish clothing.

This is an ideal stop for walkers, shoppers, and families. The walk is quite steep in places, so it’s great for stretching your legs during a long drive.
- Duration: A walk to the lower falls takes about forty-five minutes; a full loop to the upper falls takes about an hour and a half.
Helpful Tips for Your Visit
- Parking: There is a massive free car park on-site, though it can get very busy with tour buses in the middle of the day.
- Food & Drink: The food hall and restaurant are excellent but can be quite expensive. There are plenty of outdoor tables if you prefer to bring your own picnic to have by the woods.
- Footwear: The paths are good but can be slippery near the water, so walking shoes are better than sandals.

The site is just a few minutes from Blair Castle. It is also perfectly positioned for those driving the main road north towards the Highlands.
