Rob Roy’s Grave

Located in the quiet, peaceful village of Balquhidder, Perthshire (FK19 8NY), this is the final resting place of the famous Highland outlaw and folk hero, Rob Roy MacGregor.

What to Expect and Enjoy
The grave is situated in a stunningly beautiful and slightly “spooky” old churchyard.

  • The Atmosphere: It’s a very simple grave marked with a stone that says “MacGregor Despite Them,” referring to the time when the family name was banned by the government.
  • Scenic Views: Just behind the church, there is a short, steep climb to Creag an Tuirc (The Boar’s Rock), which provides an incredible view down over Loch Voil.

Best for history fans and walkers looking for a quieter, “off-the-beaten-track” experience.

  • Duration: Most people spend about 30 to 45 minutes at the church, or 1.5 hours if they do the walk up the hill.
