Lochranza Distillery (Isle of Arran)

Formerly known as the Isle of Arran Distillery, this one is located in the stunning village of Lochranza at the north end of the island (KA27 8HJ). It is often described as one of the most beautiful distillery locations in the world.

What to Expect and Enjoy
Unlike the smoky Islay distilleries, this one is much more modern, bright, and airy.

  • The Scenery: It sits in a valley surrounded by high mountains where golden eagles often circle overhead. The water for the whisky comes from a nearby stream called Easan Biorach (The Sharp Waterfalls).
  • The Deer: Wild red deer are almost always grazing in the fields right next to the distillery. They are quite used to people and make for amazing photos.
  • The Casks: You can see a wide variety of barrels being used, including those that previously held Sherry, Port, or even Wine.

Perfect for nature lovers and families who want a scenic stop-off.

  • Duration: Allow about 1 to 1.5 hours.

  • Food & Drink: They have a fantastic upstairs café called CASKS, which has won awards for its food. It’s a great spot for a high-quality coffee and a cake while looking out at the mountains.
  • Parking: There is free parking on-site.
  • Nearby: Just a short walk away are the ruins of Lochranza Castle, which sits on a spit of land sticking out into the sea—it’s very photogenic!
