Strathclyde Country Park

Situated between Motherwell and Hamilton (ML1 3ED), this is one of the most popular outdoor spots in Scotland’s central belt. It’s built around a massive man-made loch and covers over 400 hectares.

What to Expect and Enjoy
This is the ultimate spot for people who love being active outdoors.

  • The Loch: The water is the centrepiece. You’ll see world-class rowing competitions here, but you can also hire pedal boats and canoes for a bit of fun on the water.
  • The Pathways: There is a very flat, wide path that goes all the way around the loch (about 3.7 miles or 6km). It’s perfect for cyclists, runners, and people with prams or wheelchairs.
  • Nature and History: Tucked away in the woods, you can find the ruins of a Roman Bath House and the historic Orbiston Tower.

Best For and Time Spent
Great for everyone—walkers, cyclists, dog owners, and families.

  • Duration: A walk around the loch takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, but if you visit the play areas or the café, you could stay for 3 or 4 hours.

Helpful Tips for Your Visit

  • Parking: There are several huge free car parks dotted around the park.
  • Food & Drink: There is a café in the Watersports Centre, and since M&D’s Theme Park is located inside the park grounds, you have plenty of restaurant options there too.
  • Savings: Access to the park and the playgrounds is completely free.
