Located on the western shore of Loch Lomond in Argyll and Bute, this is arguably the prettiest village in Scotland. It uses the postcode G83 8PA. It was originally a model village built for estate workers, and today it feels like a place where time has stood still.

What to Expect and Enjoy
People flock to Luss because it is incredibly photogenic. The tiny sandstone cottages are identical, each with its own colourful garden full of climbing roses and honeysuckle.

  • The Loch Views: Walking down to the Luss Pier gives you one of the most famous views of Loch Lomond and the mountain Ben Lomond. You can hop on a boat tour here to explore the islands.
  • The Fairy Trail: This is a lovely woodland walk for families. You can buy a little map and hunt for tiny fairy houses hidden in the trees. It’s simple, low-tech fun that keeps kids engaged while you enjoy the forest air.
  • Luss Parish Church: Even if you aren’t religious, the church is worth a look for its beautiful stained glass and the peaceful graveyard, which contains a “Viking hogback” grave marker over 1,000 years old.
  • The Beach: There is a narrow, pebbly beach that is perfect for skimming stones or dipping your toes in the water on a warm day.

  • Parking: The village is mostly pedestrianised. You must use the large pay-and-display car park at the entrance. It can be expensive and fills up incredibly fast on weekends, so aim to arrive early in the morning.
  • Food & Drink: The Luss Seafood Bar is famous for local treats, and there are several small tearooms for a quick scone. Be warned that prices can be a bit higher here because it is such a popular tourist hub.
  • Nearby: You are only 15 minutes from Balloch, where you’ll find the SEA LIFE Centre and the Bird of Prey Centre.
