Located just a few miles from Edinburgh, this massive estate offers a mix of high-adventure play, peaceful woodland walks, and high-end shopping. It is in Dalkeith, Midlothian, postcode EH22 1ST.

What to Expect and Enjoy
The park has something for everyone, whether you want to get your heart racing or just have a quiet stroll.

Fort Douglas Adventure Park: This is a huge hit for kids. It’s a massive wooden fortress with sky mazes, zip wires, and slides. There is a dedicated area for toddlers too, so the little ones don’t get overwhelmed.
Restoration Yard: This is a beautiful old stable block that has been converted into a gorgeous shop and restaurant. It’s a very stylish place to browse for unique gifts.
Woodland Walks: There are miles of trails through ancient oak trees. Look out for the resident deer and the Old Wood, which has some of the oldest trees in Europe.
Go Ape: If you aren’t afraid of heights, there is a Go Ape course on-site where you can trek through the treetops and fly down zip lines.

Best For and Time Spent
This is a goldmine for families with children of all ages. Adults and seniors will love the Restoration Yard and the flatter riverside walks.

Duration: You can easily spend a full day here if the kids are in the adventure park. Otherwise, allow 3 hours for a walk and a browse in the shops.

Helpful Tips for Your Visit

Parking: There is a large car park. While entry to the parkland is free, you usually have to pay a daily parking fee.
Tickets: Entry to Fort Douglas requires a ticket. It is much better to book these online in advance, especially during school holidays.
Food: The Kitchen at Restoration Yard is excellent for a proper meal, but there is also a “Larder” for takeaway sandwiches and coffee which is a bit quicker and cheaper.
