Musselburgh Racecourse

Known as one of the most scenic tracks in the UK, this historic course is situated right by the coast. It is located in Musselburgh, East Lothian, using the postcode EH21 7RG.

What to Expect and Enjoy
The atmosphere here changes depending on when you visit, but it is always full of energy.

  • The Race Day Experience: There is nothing like the sound of the horses’ hooves thundering past as they head toward the finish line. Even if you don’t place a bet, the spectacle is very exciting.
  • Family Days: Throughout the year, they hold specific “Family Days” where the focus is on kids. They often have free fairground rides, face painting, and pony rides, making it a proper day out for the little ones.
  • Ladies Day: This is the most famous event of the year, usually in early June. It is very glamorous with lots of fancy hats and dresses, and it usually ends with live music or a party.
  • The Setting: The course is unique because it is built around a golf course, and you can see the sea from parts of the stands.

Ideal for groups of friends, couples, and seniors. On dedicated “Family Days,” it is brilliant for families with children.

  • Duration: Most race meetings last about 4 to 5 hours, featuring several different races throughout the afternoon or evening.

  • Booking: It is much cheaper to book your tickets online in advance. Under-12s usually get in for free when accompanied by an adult, which is a great bonus for families.
  • Transport: There is a free shuttle bus that usually runs from Wallyford and Musselburgh train stations to the racecourse on race days.
  • Parking: There is plenty of free parking available on-site.
  • Food & Drink: Food and drink can be a bit expensive inside the enclosures, but there are lots of options from simple snack vans to high-end restaurants.
