The Gobbins Cliff Path

County: County Antrim
Postcode: BT40 3SL
Best for: Adults, older children, walkers, coastal scenery, adventure
Average visit time: Around 2.5 to 3 hours

The Gobbins Cliff Path is one of the most dramatic coastal walks you can do in Northern Ireland. It’s not just a simple stroll – it’s a guided experience that takes you along narrow paths, through tunnels and across bridges built right into the cliffs above the sea.

As you go along, you’re right up close to the coastline. Waves crash below you, seabirds nest in the rocks, and the views stretch out across the water. It feels quite adventurous in places, especially when you’re crossing some of the bridges or walking along sections where the cliff face rises straight up beside you.

Because it’s guided, you also get a bit of insight into the history of the path and how it was originally built, which adds to the experience. The pace is steady, with stops along the way, so it’s manageable if you’re reasonably fit.

The route is linear rather than circular, but transport is usually arranged as part of the visit, so you don’t need to worry about getting back to your starting point.

Good to know: There are height, fitness and age restrictions, and it’s not suitable if you’re uncomfortable with heights or narrow paths. Sturdy footwear is essential, and weather conditions can affect availability.

Nearby ideas: You’re close to the town of Larne, and the wider Causeway Coastal Route is nearby, so this fits nicely into a scenic drive along the coast. You could also combine it with a visit to the Antrim Coast Road for more views and stop-off points.
