Lochore Meadows Country Park

Known affectionately by locals as “The Meedies,” this park is one of Fife’s most popular outdoor destinations. What was once a coal mining area has been completely transformed into a massive park with a beautiful loch at its heart. You’ll find it near Crosshill, Fife (Postcode: KY5 8AL).

This is a place for action and fresh air. Whether you want to be on the water or exploring the woods, there is plenty to do.

The Loch: The centrepiece is Loch Ore. You can walk all the way around it on a wide, level path that is about 3.5 miles long. It’s perfect for buggies, bikes, and dog walking.
Water Sports: On the water, you’ll often see people sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. If you’re feeling brave, there is even an open-water swimming area.
The Play Area: There is a fantastic adventure playground for children, including a dedicated section for those with additional needs.
Wildlife and Woods: The park has large wooded areas and wildflower meadows. It’s a great spot for birdwatching, with several “hides” where you can sit quietly and watch the ducks and swans.
Golf and Fishing: There is a 9-hole golf course on-site and the loch is well-stocked for trout fishing.

It’s a top choice for active families, dog owners, and cyclists. Because it is so flat, it is also excellent for seniors or those who want an easy, accessible walk.

Duration: A loop of the loch takes about an hour at a brisk pace, but most families spend 3 to 4 hours here to use the play areas and have a picnic.

Food: The Willie Clarke Centre has a modern café with big windows overlooking the loch. It serves hot meals, snacks, and ice cream.
Accessibility: The main circuit around the loch is very flat and well-surfaced, making it one of the most accessible outdoor walks in the county.
