The Tropicana in Newcastle is a heated outdoor swimming pool right on the seafront, with the Mourne Mountains as a backdrop. It is a simple attraction, but on a warm day it can be one of the most enjoyable and refreshing places to spend a few hours.

The pool is suitable for both adults and children, with shallow areas for younger swimmers and deeper sections for those who want a proper swim. The fact that it is heated makes a big difference, especially in Northern Ireland where the weather can be unpredictable.
There are water features and space for kids to play, so it works well for families. It is not a full-scale water park with slides and big rides, but that is part of the appeal. It is more relaxed and easier to manage, especially with younger children.
The location is a real bonus. You are right beside the beach, promenade and town centre, so it is easy to combine with a walk along the seafront, fish and chips, or a visit to nearby cafés and shops. The Mourne Mountains are also close by, so it can fit nicely into a wider day out in the area.
This is very much a seasonal attraction and best enjoyed in warmer weather. On a sunny day it can get busy, but that usually adds to the atmosphere rather than taking away from it.
Good to know: Opening is typically limited to the warmer months. There are basic changing facilities on site. Younger children should be supervised at all times. It is worth arriving earlier on hot days as it can fill up quickly.
