Jedburgh is a historic “Border Burgh” that feels like it’s tucked into a valley. It is packed with things to see within a short walking distance. The town is dominated by the Abbey, but the narrow streets leading away from it are full of interesting old buildings and local shops.

One of the highlights is the walk up the hill to Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum. It’s a bit of a climb but worth it for the views and the experience of seeing what a 19th-century prison was like. For those who enjoy a bit of nature, the Borders Abbeys Way passes through the town, offering lovely walks along the Jed Water river.

Good to know: There is a large free car park right at the bottom of the town near the visitor centre, which makes it a very easy place to start your day.
