Kelso

County: Roxburghshire
Postcode: TD5 7HF (Town Square)
Best for: History fans, shoppers, and fans of traditional architecture
Average visit time: 2 to 3 hours

Kelso is often described as one of the most beautiful towns in Scotland. It is built around a massive cobbled market square, the largest in the country, which gives it a very European feel. It is a fantastic place for a wander, with lots of independent shops, high-quality butchers, and antique stores.

Visitors will enjoy walking down towards the River Tweed to see the impressive bridge and the remains of Kelso Abbey. If you are there on a sunny day, the riverside walk is level and very scenic. The town feels very traditional and is a great spot to just sit with a coffee in the square and watch the world go by.

Good to know: Parking is generally easy to find around the square or in the large car parks near the river. If you are visiting on a market day (usually the fourth Saturday of the month), it can be very busy but has a great atmosphere.
