Peebles

County: Peeblesshire
Postcode: EH45 8AG (High Street)
Best for: Shopping, riverside strolls, foodies, and families
Average visit time: Half a day to a full day

Peebles is a bustling, friendly town that has won awards for having the best independent shops in Scotland. The High Street is full of character, with local butchers, bakers, and unique gift shops. It doesn’t feel like a typical “chain” high street, which makes it a joy to explore.

The town is split by the River Tweed, and the “Green” area by the water is perfect for a stroll. There is a popular circular walk along the river that is mostly level and surfaced, taking you past Neidpath Castle. It’s about 3 miles long and very easy for families or cyclists. Kids will love the large park near the river which has a great playground.

Good to know: There are plenty of cafes and traditional pubs for lunch. Parking is generally cheap and easy to find in the large car parks just off the High Street.
