Cairnie Fruit Farm and Maize Maze

Cairnie is a huge favourite for families in Fife, offering a mix of traditional farm fun and a massive outdoor play area. It’s located just outside Cupar, Fife (Postcode: KY15 4QD).

What to Expect and Enjoy
The farm changes with the time of year, but there is always plenty to do. It’s a very active, “run-around” kind of place.

The Mega Maze: Usually open from mid-July through to October, this is a massive maze grown out of maize (corn). It’s redesigned every year with a different theme. You’re given a map and a set of challenges to find markers hidden inside. It’s great fun for all ages and surprisingly easy to get lost in!
Pick Your Own Fruit: Depending on when you visit, you can grab a basket and head into the fields. They are famous for their strawberries, but you can also find raspberries, brambles, and pumpkins as the year progresses.
The Funyard: This is a dedicated play area that requires a ticket. It’s packed with things like “Mega Slides,” trampolines, a flying fox (zip wire), and a large straw bale fortress for climbing.
Go-Karts and Tractors: There is a popular pedal go-kart track and plenty of ride-on tractors for the younger children.

Best For and Time Spent
This is primarily for families with children and teens. It’s a very popular spot for groups of friends meeting up with kids.

Duration: If you are doing the maze and the Funyard, you should plan to spend 3 to 4 hours here. If you’re just popping in for fruit picking and a cake, an hour is enough.

Helpful Tips for Your Visit

Footwear: Since it’s a working farm, it can be dusty in the sun and muddy in the rain. Wear trainers or boots you don’t mind getting a bit dirty.
The Maze: The maze is huge and can be a bit of a trek for very small legs. It’s usually buggy-friendly, but a sturdy “all-terrain” pram is better than a small city one.
Food: There is a large café on-site that is well-known for its home baking—the strawberry tarts and scones are local legends. They also serve light lunches. There are plenty of picnic tables if you prefer to bring your own food.
Parking: There is a large, free grass car park right at the entrance.

The Scottish Deer Centre: This is only a few minutes away. You could easily do a “wildlife and farm” double-header.
Hill of Tarvit: This historic mansion is very close by and offers a quieter, more relaxed pace if the kids have burned off all their energy at the farm.
