Football Stadium Tours – Newcastle and Sunderland

Newcastle United & Sunderland AFC Stadium Tours

St. James’ Park, Newcastle, NE1 4ST | Stadium of Light, Sunderland, SR5 1SU

For the football fanatics, Tyne and Wear offers two of the most iconic stadium experiences in the country.

A tour of St. James’ Park takes you into the heart of Newcastle United, where you can walk the tunnel to the roar of a virtual crowd and see the view from the manager’s dugout.

Over at the Stadium of Light, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at Sunderland AFC’s proud history, exploring the dressing rooms and the prestigious boardroom.

Both tours are led by passionate guides who live and breathe their club’s heritage, making it a “must-do” even if you aren’t a die-hard supporter.

For families, these tours are generally recommended for ages 5 and up, as there’s a fair bit of walking and listening involved. Junior fans often get a certificate to take home, which is a nice touch for the scrapbook.

Budget-wise, look out for family tickets or “bundle” offers that include a meal at the stadium’s own sports bar or restaurant.

In Newcastle, you’re right in the city centre, so parking is “pay and display” and can be tricky on busy days; many find it easier to use the Metro to St. James’ station.

In Sunderland, parking at the stadium is usually free for the first two hours on non-matchdays, which covers most tour durations comfortably. Expect to spend about 90 minutes to 2 hours on either tour.
