For a fast-paced, slightly different evening out, “The Dogs” is a Newcastle institution. It’s loud, exciting, and very “Geordie.”
What Happens? A typical night features about 10 to 12 races. The thrill of seeing the dogs fly past at 40mph is something else! It’s a very social event where people stand by the trackside or watch from the glass-fronted restaurant.

Age Groups: It’s a popular spot for groups of friends and stag/hen dos, but families are welcome too. Kids often find the speed of the dogs fascinating, and there’s a real buzz when the “hare” starts moving.
Budgeting & Offers: This is a great “budget” night out. They often run “Six Pack” deals which bundle your entry, a race programme, a drink, and a snack (like a burger or basket of chicken) for a very low price. If you want a bit of luxury, the Grandstand Restaurant offers a three-course meal with a view of the finish line.
Parking: There is a large, free car park on-site. Most people spend about 3 to 4 hours here, usually starting around 6:30 PM. It’s located in Byker, which is just a short taxi or bus ride from the city centre.
