Floors Castle
County: Roxburghshire
Postcode: TD5 7SF
Best for: Families, garden enthusiasts, fans of grand estates, and couples
Average visit time: 3 to 4 hours

Floors Castle is the largest inhabited house in Scotland and looks exactly like a palace from a storybook, complete with countless little towers and spires. Because it is still a family home, the rooms feel lived-in and are packed with incredible art, fine furniture, and huge tapestries that are fascinating to look at.

The grounds are just as impressive as the house. There are massive walled gardens, woodland walks, and a cycle trail. It’s a perfect place for a full afternoon out because there is so much variety; you can spend time admiring the luxury of the house and then let the kids run free in the vast open spaces or the adventure playground.

It is particularly popular with families and older adults who enjoy a mix of culture and a gentle walk in the fresh air. If you enjoy the TV show “The Crown” or similar period dramas, you will love the style and scale of this estate.
Good to know: There is a very popular terrace cafe and a deli on-site that serve high-quality local food. Parking is easy and close to the main entrance. Annual passes are often available for those who live nearby and want to use the gardens frequently.
