Neidpath Castle is a classic Scottish tower house that looks exactly how you’d imagine a medieval stronghold to look. It sits on a steep cliff overlooking a bend in the River Tweed. Unlike some of the grander estates, this castle feels very rugged and real, which is why it has been used as a filming location for famous movies.
The best thing about Neidpath is the combination of the building and the surrounding landscape. You can explore the old stone rooms and climb up to see views that are simply stunning. It’s a very popular spot for people who enjoy walking, as there are lovely, well-maintained paths that run right along the riverbank nearby. It’s a great place for a bit of quiet exploration and to enjoy the fresh air.
It is ideal for couples and small groups of friends who enjoy a scenic walk followed by a bit of history. While children can visit, it is a bit more of a “look and explore” site than a play-focused one.
Good to know: The castle is very close to Peebles town centre, so it is incredibly easy to combine a visit here with a trip to the local shops or cafes. Parking is available nearby, and the walk from the town to the castle is mostly level and very scenic.
