Manderston is the ultimate Edwardian country house. It was built with no expense spared, and it shows. The highlight for most people is the silver staircase—it is the only one of its kind in the world and is absolutely stunning to see in person. If you enjoy shows like “Downton Abbey,” you will love exploring both the grand rooms upstairs and the fascinating “below stairs” areas where the servants worked.

The gardens are just as impressive, featuring a marble dairy, a lakeside walk, and formal areas that are perfect for a gentle stroll. It feels like a very glamorous step back in time. It is generally more suited to adults and seniors, though older children interested in history or design will find the detail of the house fascinating.

Good to know: The house is only open on specific days during the summer months (usually Thursdays and Sundays), so definitely check the schedule before you drive out. There is a tea room on-site for refreshments.
