Hawick is the largest town in the Borders and is world-famous for its knitwear and cashmere. If you enjoy shopping for high-quality woollens, this is the place to be. Many of the old mills have visitor centres and shops where you can find great deals on luxury clothes.

A “must-visit” here is Wilton Lodge Park. It is a huge, beautiful park with tree-lined walks, a museum, and a fantastic modern play area for children. It’s one of the best town parks in Scotland and is perfect for a family picnic or a long stroll along the river.

Good to know: The town has a very strong local identity, especially during the “Common Riding” season in early summer. The Tower Knowe area in the centre is a good place to find local information and history.
