The Quayside

The Quayside

Newcastle & Gateshead Waterfront | NE1 3DX

The Quayside is the “postcard” view of the North East, stretching along both sides of the River Tyne. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll to admire the seven iconic bridges, including the tilting Millennium Bridge and the mighty Tyne Bridge. On the Gateshead side, you have the striking glass curves of the Glasshouse International Centre for Music and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. It’s a hub of culture, food, and great vibes that works just as well for a romantic evening walk as it does for a family Sunday out.

The best time to visit is undoubtedly Sunday morning for the Quayside Market, where you can find everything from local crafts to incredible street food. It’s a very budget-friendly destination because walking the loop across the bridges is completely free, and many of the galleries along the way don’t charge for entry either. Food ranges from high-end riverside dining to quick bites at the market kiosks. If you’re driving, the Quayside multi-storey is the most convenient spot, but it can be pricey; many locals prefer to park slightly further out near the Ouseburn and walk in along the river path to enjoy the views.
