Oakwood Theme Park

Oakwood Theme Park is the biggest theme park in Wales and has over 30 rides and attractions varying from small family attractions to large rollercoasters suited to thrill seekers.

The theme park is not in the same league as some of the massive parks such as Alton Towers etc but is great fun and if you are looking for things to do with the kids this could be a possible solution.

Heatherton World of Activities

Heatherton World of Activities is one of the popular things to do in South Wales and is a centre that will keep most kids happy. Entrance to the park is free and then you pay for the activities you want to take part in. Activities include: Go Karts, Paintball, Climbing, Pitch & Putt, Adventure Golf, Laser clay shooting, pistol shooting, archery, baseball range, indoor bowls, bumper boats, walk on water balls, Maize maze, barrel train, driving school, fishing lakes and slotcar racing.

The Dinosaur Park - Tenby

Attractions include the dinosaur trail with over 30 hungry dinosaurs waiting to eat or spray you with water.

The outdoor playground has an 18 hole volcanic themed Adventure Golf, Walk on water Bubbles, Disco Boats, Super Bouncer Trampolines, 4x4 Off Roaders, get Dizzy in the Orbiter Cars, motorised tractors, Cross bow shooting, and you can race friends down the Astra Slide. In the Adventure Playground you can climb, swing and dig to your heart's content.

In the games garden you can play with Dinosaur Snakes and Ladders, Hoopla, and see who can assemble the Giant Jigsaws in the shortest time. Dino's Den is an Indoor softplay area dedicated to toddlers to 10's. There is also hard play for bigger kids.

Barry Island Pleasure Park

Barry Island Pleasure Park is an amusement park situated on the coast at Barry Island in the Vale of Glamorgan, about 10 miles south west of Cardiff. The park has recently re-opened after being taken over.

Blue Lagoon Waterpark

Why not start the weekend off with a bang? Every Friday between 6pm and 9pm you can get all the Blue Lagoons best bits: waves, slides, flumes and the lazy river all mixed together with the hottest tunes echoing around the Blue Lagoon. Wild Water isn’t just any old visit to the Blue Lagoon. Every activity is turned up to the max. Even the lazy river is more like a river rapid and the waves are only for the bravest of souls.

Throughout the year they organise events such as its famous After Dark theme night, last year it was a Caribbean beach party. The Blue Lagoon was transformed into a tropical paradise complete with great live music, steel band and pool-side barbecue as part of three hours of After Dark fun.

Pontypool Ski Centre

 Pontypool Ski Centre has a 230 metre main slope, a beginners area, a ski lift, sprinkler system and mogul run. In addition to open skiing times, the Ski Centre runs its own Ski School which offers instruction for all standards of skiing and snowboarding from novice to expert. The Ski Centre is open to everyone regardless of skiing ability, however complete beginners must have at least three lessons before they can attend open practice.

Ski and Snowboard Centre - Cardiff The facility offers a 100 metre ski slope, an overhead poma ski lift and a lubrication roller ensuring good skiing and snowboarding conditions even in dry weather. The complex is fully floodlit so whatever time you finish work there is always time to ski and board.

At the centre you can get very close to over 200 magnificent birds of prey. The Hawking Centre is situated in 20 acres of scenic Welsh parkland.  The most exciting part of a visit is watching the wonderful daily displays. You can witness the speed of the graceful falcons stooping to the lure and the silent flight of an owl, as well as maybe even getting involved and having one of our birds fly to your gloved hand.

Go Ape - Margam Country Park, Port Talbot

 Go Ape features high ropes, awesome crossings, tunnels, bridges and an epic wind-in-your-face zip wire to finish. You’ll enjoy some splendid landscapes as you swing through the trees and fly down the zip wire. Every person is given instructions and connected to a safety harness.

Ocean Quest - Cardiff, Porthcawl, Swansea

Ocean Quest - Cardiff, Porthcawl, Swansea have been teaching people to Scuba dive all over South Wales for 15 years and can offer full PADI scuba diving courses from beginner to instructor. The centre also offers a number of other activities such as Surfing, Kayaking, Body Boarding and various outdoor activities.

Techniquest - Cardiff

Techniquest - cardiff is a Children's Science Discovery Centre with over 60 hands-on interactive exhibits that are designed to challenge visitors understanding of science in a fun and educational way.

Techniquest is the UK's longest established science centre and actually sell programs and exhibits to science centres all over the world. The centre has had over 4 million visitors since it first opened.

Plantasia - Swansea

Plantasia - Swansea is like a mini Eden project with a friendly mixture of tropical plants, animals and activities. The attraction has everything from insects, snakes, reptiles, tropical fish and monkeys to bananas, pineapple plants, prickly cacti and giant bamboo. Plantasia is a lovely place to distract yourself and the kids for a few hours. Look out for extra activities on their website like meeting birds of prey or reptiles.

National Showcaves centre for Wales

The National Showcaves centre for Wales has three exceptional caves to experience - Dan-yr-Ogof, Cathedral Cave and Bone Cave. Each cave is unique and has it's own features. This attraction was voted Britain's Finest Natural Wonder and has also won major environmental and tourism awards.

Outside there are 220 life size dinosaur models, an Iron age village, stone circles, a museum, Shire horse centre and children's play areas, plenty of activities for a great day out.

Big Pit National Mining Museum - Torfaen

Big Pit National Mining Museum is not a sanitised Disney-style "theme park." Mining regulations similar to a working pit are in place as real dangers exist. Anything containing a dry cell battery, such as watches and mobile phones must be surrendered before taking the tour.

The attraction runs 50 minute underground tours, 300 ft underground. Visitors wear a plastic hard hat, safety lamp, a battery on a waist belt and also a rebreather, which will filter foul air for approximately one hour in case of emergency.



Big Pit is an exciting and informative day out and gives you a true sense of what it was like working in the mine. The Museum is set in a unique industrial landscape, designated a World Heritage Site and has many building to explore and multi-media displays to enjoy.

WWT National Wetland Centre - Llanelli

WWT National Wetland Centre at Llanelli Is the perfect place for bird lovers. The centre consists of a 450 acre mosaic of lakes, scrapes, pools, streams and lagoons adjoining the salt marshes and shore of the scenic Burry Inlet.

The lagoons nearest to the estuary are where birds gather in the greatest abundance, including black-tailed and bar-tailed godwits, curlew, pintail, shelduck, shoveler, snipe and teal. The centre receives seasonal flocks of wild birds numbering up to 50,000 strong.

The range of habitats makes the site a refuge for many different plants and animals. Fish are plentiful in the centre's deep-water lake and this has attracted otters and herons.

Millennium Stadium Tour

Experienced tour guides will take you on a tour of the stadium and explain some of the more unique features. Learn about the only palletised pitch system and fully retractable roof in the UK, which allows the entire playing surface to be removed to create one of the world's largest indoor arenas. On your visit you may find the pitch has already been removed for an up-coming concert.

The tour will take you to the Press conference room, team dressing rooms, the players tunnel , VIP hospitality suite and you may even get to lift a trophy in the President's box.

Walking, Cycling and Riding in South Wales

South Wales is a beautiful part of UK, with traditional market towns, stunning landscape, canal paths, castles and plenty of family attractions. The scenery here is both beautiful and diverse - rolling countryside and valleys, wide open spaces to the wild beauty of the waterfalls and caves. One of the most beautiful areas in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Walking in the Brecon Beacons is very popular and there is a 100 mile walking route called the Beacons way that runs from the foot of Ysgyryd Fawr east of Abergavenny and ends in the village of Bethlehem in Carmarthenshire. Activities in the Brecons include walking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, as well as sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing, rock climbing, hang-gliding, caving, camping and caravanning. A long-distance cycling route, the Taff Trail, passes through the Brecon Beacons on its way from Brecon to Cardiff.
